Communications

Digital Content Manager

Overview

SFFILM’s seasonal Digital Content Manager works closely with the Director of External Relations and members of the communications team to design and implement the organization’s content and communications strategy across web, print, social, and email marketing. This position oversees the development of all content for the SFFILM Festival, including project management of production timelines and cross-departmental deadlines and deliverables..

This is a full-time temporary role from February 1 to April 23. This role can be performed remotely, but strong preference for someone based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Responsibilities

Content Creation and Development (70%)

  • Support the strategic planning for and lead the implementation of SFFILM’s Festival web, email, social content calendar and strategy, ensuring timely completion of all digital content deliverables.
  • Manage the design, production and distribution of all Festival communications collateral.
  • Work closely with SFFILM’s Programming department on the development of all film-related content and collection of digital film assets for the Festival web build, as well as the schedule for ticket sales and public program announcements.
  • Collaborate with the Graphic Design team on creation of assets for digital campaigns, email and web builds, and printed materials.
  • Support the production timeline and content creation processes for all SFFILM social media channels.
  • Support the timing and creation of all images, banners, and slides for SFFILM website and email communications.
  • Adhere firmly to all brand style guides and promote adherence in all SFFILM external communications.
  • Maintain SFFILM’s library of digital assets between the organization’s file server and Dropbox and within our WordPress content management system.

Project Management (25%)

  • Project manage and strategically plan the processes for all print, web, email production processes related to the Festival.
  • Work closely with the Box Office team to ensure timely build of all events within the ticketing database and Point of Sale system. Oversee integration of the ticket products build into SFFILM’s WordPress website to ensure accuracy.
  • Support SFFILM’s Tech and Media department on all video capture needs including project management of video content production timelines.
  • Manage all photo capture leading up to and during the SFFILM Festival, including photographer relationships, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Support the creation of production and delivery schedule for all external and internal collateral including outdoor materials, (web/banner ads), print ads, newsletter blurbs, (website content,) audio and video PSAs

Administration (5%)

  • Maintain productive, efficient relationships with contractors and developers.
  • Monitor budgets for web builds, email marketing, and print production. Track progress to actuals and manage the processing of relevant purchase orders and invoices.

Qualifications

  • Superior written and strong oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of content and communications activities.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience managing the design and production of web and email content.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite as well as web content management and email marketing tools, such as WordPress and Mailchimp.
  • Experience with FilmMaker Pro a plus.
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Pay rate: $20 per hour, eligible for overtime pay

Press Office Manager

Overview

The Communications team at SFFILM is seeking a Press Office Manager to oversee the PR office for the 64th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 9–18, 2021).

The Press Office Manager is a dynamic, organized, highly personable, and self-directed Public Relations professional. This role requires high attention to detail, as well as a commitment to follow-through and execution. The Press Office Manager will manage a team of two direct reports to organize media access to SFFILM Festival events. The candidate will have a proven track record in capturing an organization’s brand voice across all media and writing projects.

This is a full-time temporary role from February 1 to April 23. This role can be performed remotely, and we will gladly consider candidates from outside the San Francisco Bay Area.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the activities of the SFFILM Festival Press Office.
  • Manage entire seasonal Press Office team during the spring, including schedules and assignments. Direct reports include the Press Office Coordinator and two Publicists.
  • Manage the Festival’s PR timeline, including all press announcements made leading up to and at the Festival press conference on March 18.
  • Pitch SFFILM programs and events to high-level press contacts, including organizing interviews.
  • Liaise with studios, PR firms, and talent reps about Festival events and activities, including coordinating social media needs.
  • Facilitate all on-site press coverage at SFFILM Festival in-person and virtual events, such as managing press access, overseeing red carpets, and setting up interviews.
  • Hire, train and oversee Press Office interns.
  • Write press releases for SFFILM Festival.
  • Design and develop tools to deliver materials, track coverage, and compile accurate statistics regarding publicity performance.
  • Participate in social media content generation alongside other Communications team members, including on-site event capture and posting relevant press coverage.
  • Coordinate schedules of photographers and video capture teams at year-round programs and during the Festival.
  • Manage external PR firms and consultants as needed.
  • Support Director of Communications and Director of Marketing in maintenance of the Communications departments Editorial Calendar.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years’ experience in a similar position is strongly encouraged, preferably in an arts-related environment.
  • Attention to detail, significant diplomacy skills, consummate professionalism, ability to multitask, and prioritize competing responsibilities, with grace under pressure.
  • Open to working off-business hours occasionally as needed, especially around SFFILM Festival schedule of events.
  • Ability to maintain utmost discretion and confidentiality.
  • Adept at anticipating problems before they arise and juggle multiple priorities at once.
  • Comfortable working with limited supervision in a dynamic small office environment.
  • Familiarity with Press Office tools, systems, reporting, and analytics.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in film or television production is beneficial, particularly a general familiarity with who’s who in the film industry.

Communications Project Manager

Overview

The Communications team at SFFILM is seeking a Project Manager to oversee the planning, execution, launch, and completion of various Festival marketing projects and campaigns for the 64th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 9–18, 2021).

The Communications Project Manager is the glue that keeps our people and projects together, ensuring high-quality materials are delivered on time and on budget. This seasonal position is responsible for fostering and driving significant cross-departmental collaboration, communication, and deadline setting. The Manager develops departmental workflows and schedules, keeping staff members on task and serving as the primary point of contact for other departments and external agencies, vendors, and partners. With a focus on design, advertising, branding, digital, and video, the Manager is a key creative contributor who works with a variety of stakeholders to shepherd projects from concept to completion.

This is a full-time temporary role from January 11 – April 16, 2021. While the role is mostly remote, Bay Area candidates are preferred. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through Friday, December 11.

Responsibilities

  • Develops all marketing project plans and manages their day-to-day execution and delivery in coordination with other members of the Communications department as well as cross-functional teams and external creative agencies and vendors.
  • Creates and executes project plans, including deadlines, specs, assets, budget, vendor coordination, status updates, approvals, and final delivery.
  • Manages project budget, scope, schedule, and resources.
  • Project manages the development, production, and dissemination of creative materials (print, video, or digital) for SFFILM Festival.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for colleagues in other departments to ensure all of SFFILM’s creative materials needs are delivered by the Communications team in a timely manner.
  • Builds and tracks production schedules and workflows; communicate deadlines, tasks, priorities across the organization.
  • Collaborates with and manage designers, video editors, external agencies and vendors, and marketing and programming partners.
  • Adheres to creative and content briefs to keep staff and partners on track.
  • Coordinates and contributes to reviews of print, digital, video, and creative content; works with stakeholders on revisions and approvals.
  • Arranges printing and distribution of collateral; works with printers, mail houses, and other vendors.
  • Proofreads all materials and ensures compliance with SFFILM brand across all internal- and external-facing materials related to the Festival.
  • Serves as key strategic and creative partner for all Communications and Development colleagues and projects, collaborating across teams to build audience and member acquisition campaigns.
  • Assists with marketing-specific aspects of SFFILM event production.

Qualifications

  • Past experience in marketing project management or related field preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing and executing projects of varying complexity and delivering them within specified timeframes and budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and manage results
  • Ability to anticipate changes, communicating promptly and efficiently and maintain flexibility
  • Experience with digital tools for content and project management including WordPress CMS, MailChimp, Basecamp, Google Apps, Outlook, FileMaker Pro, and social media platforms and tools.
  • Passion for movies and festivals is a plus!

Festival Graphic Designer

Overview

The Communications team at SFFILM is seeking a hard-working and creative Festival Graphic Designer to assist in the creation of visual assets for the 64th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 9–18, 2021). The Festival Graphic Designer works closely with the Graphic Designer and Directors of Marketing and Communications to produce a wide array of media that advances the mission and brand of SFFILM through creative, strategic, and top-notch design.

This is a full-time temporary role from January 25 – April 9, 2021. While the role is fully remote, candidates in the Pacific Time Zone are preferred. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through Friday, January 8.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and creation of all print and digital assets for the 64th San Francisco International Film Festival.
  • Create materials for Festival events, from digital invitations to printed mini-programs.
  • Produce digital, print, and outdoor advertising, from full-page spreads in distributed publications to re-skins of national websites to billboards and transit advertising.
  • Create print and digital signage, from directional posters used in theater venues to onscreen slideshows projected before screenings.
  • Produce digital graphics and banners to be used on social media and in email communications.
  • Build mock-ups for Communications team members to better visualize and present projects to be tasked to external partners.
  • Create other print and digital collateral as needed, including pitch decks, brochures, flyers, and more.
  • Implement consistent brand identity across a diverse array of materials.
  • Manage multiple projects from concept to completion, adhering to strict deadlines.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • A working understanding of layout, type, and color.
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator (intermediate level or above).
  • Able to both take instructions and initiative.
  • Enthusiastic and passionate with an eye for detail.
  • Superior file management skills (tracking and archiving).
  • Hardworking and professional with a balanced temperament and good sense of humor.
  • Organized and deadline-driven team-player capable of picking up and applying new skills in a fast-paced environment.

Communications Intern

Overview

The Communications team at SFFILM is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and web-savvy individual to provide promotional support for its upcoming public programs, including the 2021 San Francisco International Film Festival. This is an excellent opportunity to gain marketing experience at a nonprofit arts organization and top-tier film festival, providing well-rounded exposure to the production of print and digital publications and social media as well as the communications strategies behind the organization’s events outreach. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who approaches a variety of communications tasks with a positive attitude and follow-through.

This is an unpaid fully remote internship from January 25 – April 16, 2021. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through Friday January 8.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct administrative support to the Communications Coordinator, Project Manager, and Director of Marketing.
  • Aggregate and organize marketing assets for Festival and institutional programs (i.e., social media links to coverage of participating films).
  • Assist with the content management of select social media channels, especially the organization’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Vimeo accounts as well as the SFFILM blog (Medium).
  • Perform data entry (FileMaker Pro), edit and format copy for the Festival website and program guide.
  • Edit images for web and print, working in Photoshop.
  • Conduct research and initiate contact with new community partners and potential distribution hubs.
  • Help to coordinate collateral distribution at Festival venues.
  • Provide production assistance and customer service at SFFILM events.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Extremely detail-oriented.
  • Ability to take both instruction and initiative while working with minimal supervision.
  • Superior communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in FileMaker Pro, Photoshop, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Google apps.
  • Familiarity with HTML or proficient web publishing skills desired but not required. CMS is WordPress.
  • Experience with social media platforms an asset.
  • Professional and friendly demeanor. Interns represent SFFILM when speaking with customers and community members.
  • Demonstrated interest in contemporary film or arts & culture.
  • Minimum commitment of 8–12 hours per week (two or three days a week) and availability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with San Francisco Bay Area geography a plus.
  • Fluency in English required.
