Description
Profiling Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor’s speedy rise to fame and ensuing controversial stances, this documentary serves as an essential reminder of just how ahead of her time she was. Traversing the pivotal years of her first three albums, 1987-93, the film tracks O’Connor’s frank discussion of her abusive mother; the sexist, racist, and predatory music business; and her issues with Catholicism, leading up to her controversial appearance on Saturday Night Live. The film also features performances of “Troy,” Feel So Different,” and more of her transcendent classics. To prove current context, the singer, who changed her name to Shuhada Sadaqat in 2018, offers reflections on her life and career in voiceover.
