Social & Digital Content Creator

OVERVIEW

The Social & Digital Content Creator creates, publishes, and amplifies multimedia storytelling that connects audiences to films, filmmakers, and film culture—always working to advance SFFILM’s four strategic content pillars: deepening film appreciation, responding to pop-culture moments, activating festival/awards season attention, and driving conversion for SFFILM events, programs, and sponsors. Reporting to the Digital Content Manager (and collaborating closely with the Digital Marketing Manager and Communications team), this role blends creative production, social strategy, and technical execution. Bay Area–based candidates are required for weekly in-office time and event coverage.

This is a seasonal, full-time (40 hrs/wk) position starting as soon as possible in October and ending Thu, Dec 18, 2025. This position is paid at the exempt rate of $1320 per week and will require evening and weekend availability during some event weeks. Application review begins September 26, 2025 and will be rolling after that.
Applications must include links to portfolio or an overview of content work that includes links to social accounts, video, writing, or campaign work. Internships/personal projects are acceptable.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Overview

  • Execute against content briefs and campaign workplans that map directly to SFFILM’s content pillars and measurable goals (engagement, awareness, ticket sales, membership, sponsor KPIs)
  • Support the maintenance of the integrated editorial & social calendar; surface timely ideas that balance evergreen film-appreciation content with time-sensitive pop-culture and festival beat coverage
  • Coordinate across Marketing, Press, Guest Services, and Artist Development to align messaging, assets, and approvals
  • Adhere to project budgets, schedules, and approval workflows
  • Support integration of web, email, and social campaigns (content, timing, tracking)

Multimedia Production

  • Shoot and edit short-form video and audio pieces for social and web (interviews, trailers, Reels, clips, podcasts)
  • Create simple graphics, GIFs, and motion assets; source/curate photography and archival materials
  • Produce pre-production materials (storyboards, shot lists) and support post-production workflows; organize and archive assets for reuse

Social & Audience Engagement

  • Produce daily social content (copy + assets) tailored to platform and pillar objective
  • Publish across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok and other priority channels
  • Collaborate with Digital Content Manager on influencer strategy to reach beyond SFFILM’s core audience
  • Be the primary Community Manager in social media DM’s as part of audience engagement strategy
  • Monitor channels, engage community, reshare user content, and triage basic customer queries
  • Capture live event coverage (photo, short video, commentary) as assigned
  • Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Manager on sponsor integrations and paid content strategies

Compliance, Operations & Reporting

  • Ensure legal compliance for publishing: credits, clearances, copyright, privacy, and press/guest material workflows
  • Adhere to best quality control practices
  • Help launch and populate festival guest and press portals with toolkits and content as needed.
  • Prepare regular social analytics reports and a final wrap report summarizing campaign performance and learnings

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years’ experience in digital content production, social media, or digital marketing (including internships/freelance)
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Keen editorial judgment
  • Practical experience shooting and editing short video (Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar)
  • Familiarity with graphic tools (Photoshop, Canva); confident mobile phone photo/video skills
  • Experience publishing in a CMS (WordPress preferred); basic SEO and analytics literacy
  • Comfortable working quickly on time-sensitive content while preserving accuracy and brand standards
  • Excellent organization, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills
  • Portfolio required (links to social accounts, video, writing, or campaign work — internships/personal projects acceptable)
  • Passion for film and cultural fluency across music, fashion, art, sports, politics, and activism
  • Ability to work nights/weekends for events as scheduled
  • Preferred tools/experience: WordPress, Google Analytics, UTMs, MailChimp, Basecamp, Adobe Creative Suite, FileMaker or similar database experience.

Social Media and Communications Intern

Summary

SFFILM is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Social Media and Communications Intern to support our digital engagement efforts across platforms, with a primary focus on Instagram. Reporting to the Digital Content Manager, this intern will develop skills and build experience in planning and implementing a social media strategy to grow awareness of SFFILM’s mission, programs, and events. Outcomes will include a portfolio of social media content and engagement impact results, with an emphasis on connecting with youth and young adult audiences.

This position is ideal for students passionate about storytelling, film, and the power of digital media to foster community and engagement. Candidates with interest in film and filmmaking are especially encouraged to apply.

This internship provides valuable exposure to arts marketing and communications, and building visibility in the film/media industry. The opportunity is based in San Francisco, requires 10-12 hours per week (availability to work out of the SFFILM SOMA offices Tuesdays and/or Thursdays is essential), and runs from June through early September, 2025. This position may occasionally involve attendance at events outside of normal business hours. Application review will begin June 2, 2025.

Opportunities + Outcomes

  • Create original and curated content for Instagram, including graphics, short-form video, and captions, with a goal of 2–4 posts per week
  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages to help foster community and brand connection

  • Enthusiastic about film, the arts, and youth-focused community engagement

Press Office Manager

Summary

The Communications team at SFFILM is seeking a detail-oriented Press Office Manager for the 2025 San Francisco International Film Festival. The Press Office Manager is responsible for coordination and administrative support of all activities of the Press Office leading up to and during the SFFILM Festival, primarily focused on supporting the earned media strategy and accredited media logistics. This role will serve as a connection between the systems and content from the Communications and Programming teams, Guest Office, and our Publicity team. This position reports to SFFILM’s Director of External Relations.

This role will be expected to work from our SOMA office two to three days per week depending on department needs. Some night and weekend availability is required, especially during the SFFILM Festival (April 17–27). Onsite availability at Bay Area venues is expected April 17–27.

This is a seasonal position with a start date of February 11, 2025 and an end date of May 9, 2025. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week and is paid hourly at the rate of $25 per hour and is eligible for overtime.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage local media accreditation process (100~ applications), including outlet review/investigation, communication of approval/denial, and credential production.
  • Manage email communication with film teams, studios, and distributors around press access for screeners and other press materials.
  • In collaboration with the Digital Content Manager, collect, organize, and process press materials for all SFFILM exhibition programs, including screeners, images, press kits, and clips.
  • Lead setup of press download site on SFFILM.org and Dropbox, including upload of 200+ individual assets for rolling program announcements.
  • Collaborate with PR team on materials processing and coverage tracking.
  • Manage screener checkout system for press per Programming team’s instructions.
  • Facilitate setup of interview space.
  • Copyedit and route press release drafts for SFFILM programs as needed.
  • Work screenings, events, red carpets, and receptions as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Publicity, Programming, and Guest Office teams, support coordination, communication, and execution of talent movements between arrival, press, receptions/dinners, onstage, and departure for Festival events.
  • Support integration of any talent prep needs into pre-event communications with SFFILM Guest Office, PR team, and Event Producer.

Qualifications:

  • Extreme attention to detail, time management, and follow-through.
  • Excellent writing and copy editing skills.
  • Ability to wrangle and organize thousands of individual assets (images, press kits, bios, video files, screening links) in a coherent and accessible manner.
  • Experience working with journalists and film teams, studios and distributors.
  • Comfort and experience working with studio and publicity teams in support of high-level talent.
  • Experience collaborating with event support staff and volunteers.
  • Superior and discreet communication skills, both email and phone.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience with Filemaker preferred.
  • Passion for film.

SFFILM is seeking a Graphic Designer independent consultant or firm to develop and design the creation of visual assets for SFFILM’s primary event campaigns in late 2024 and early 2025, including Doc Stories, and the San Francisco International Festival.

The contract will be project-based and determined by consultant availability, but could involve working closely with SFFILM’s Marketing & Communications Project Manager to produce a wide array of media that advances the mission and brand of SFFILM through creative, strategic, and top-notch design.

We are seeking emerging and established designer and designer teams eager to demonstrate strong creative and technical skills in a fast-paced environment with broad Bay Area project visibility and impact.

About SFFILM

SFFILM is a nonprofit organization whose mission ensures independent voices in film are welcomed, heard, and given the resources to thrive. SFFILM connects and inspires audiences, students and teachers, and filmmakers through our film exhibition, youth education, and artist development programs.

Possible Projects

Create and design all print and digital assets for SFFILM’s main events as assigned, project-mapped and budgeted. This might include: Doc Stories, Awards Night, and the 68th San Francisco International Film Festival.

  • Create key art, style guides, and designs by project or campaign
  • Present mockups and presentations for feedback from the Communications team and other internal stakeholders

Cost & Fees

Detail hourly or rate charges for all graphic design services, including any administrative fees. These fees can be hourly, project based, or a combination, but should be scaled to non-profit realities.

Before beginning each project, SFFILM will request a quote and work with the graphic design consultant to come to a consensus on budget and schedule. All work will be property of SFFILM and raw graphic design files must be submitted at a project’s completion.

Overview

SFFILM is seeking an Institutional Graphic Designer to support a branding refresh and update of institutional assets and campaigns which feature SFFILM’s established—and emerging—visual identity. The Graphic Designer will work to ensure projects and deliverables align with SFFILM’s institutional branding and business goals by helping to implement a consistent design system across a diverse array of materials. Under the supervision of the Marketing & Communications Project Manager, the Institutional Graphic Designer works closely with SFFILM’s Design consultants and Marketing & Communications Team to produce a wide array of media that advances the mission and brand of SFFILM through creative, strategic, and top-notch design.

This position is ideal for an early (and rising!) career designer seeking to utilize strong technical and branding skills in a high visibility creative field with meaningful cultural impact, a fast pace, and national and international reach.

This is a temporary, seasonal, part-time, non-exempt role. Typical hours are 25-30 hours per week, and determining a proposed schedule of availability will be part of the hiring process. Pay rate is $25-$30 per hour depending on experience. Preferred start date is July 22, and the agreement would run through December 14, 2024. Seasonal staff are expected to be based in the Bay Area. SFFILM maintains a hybrid schedule, with half the week in person and half the week remote.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Marketing & Communications Project Manager, audit current style guides and brandin
  • Based on audit and goals set by the Communications team, produce updated Brand Style Guide
  • Update and produce key branded assets for institutional collateral and campaigns including the master lockup for 2024 Doc Stories
  • Design print and digital assets and collateral for SFFILM’s institutional, year round branding (pitch decks, brochures, flyers, etc.) as well as support on some event driven assets as assigned
  • Produce static and motion graphics (based on skill) for social media and email campaigns
  • Create print and digital signage and media, from directional posters used in theater venues to onscreen slideshows projected before screenings
