San Francisco Film Society Presents An Evening with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Featuring Special Advance Screening of ‘The Interview’, November 18 at the Castro Theatre

The San Francisco Film Society has announced that it will welcome modern masters of comedy, writer/directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, for an in-depth onstage discussion of their careers followed by a screening of their new film The Interview, Tuesday November 18, 7:30 pm at the Castro Theatre. Rogen and Goldberg will show clips from their work together and discuss how their work has made an impact on contemporary comedy.

“Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have changed the face of the modern comedy,” said SFFS Executive Director Noah Cowan. “Their unique brand of smart, entertaining and hilarious storytelling has had an indelible effect on contemporary cinema, and The Interview is a fantastic example of their ability to examine an issue through their particular anarchic lens. We’re very much looking forward to having them join us to discuss their creative process and the gestation of this hysterical new film. It’s going to be quite a night!”

The Interview, codirected by Rogen and Goldberg, is slated for release on Christmas Day from Columbia Pictures. In the action comedy, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show “Skylark Tonight.” When they discover that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the most unlikely candidates, to “take out” Kim Jong-un.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg began “collaborating” at Hebrew school in their native Vancouver while preparing for their Bar Mitzvahs and they’ve been best friends and writing, producing and directing partners ever since. The pair developed and began writing the seminal coming-of-age film Superbad (2007) when they were 13 years old. Their first “Hollywood” job was when they joined the writing staff of HBO’s Da Ali G Show (2003). The writing team received an Emmy nomination. They subsequently went on to write and produce Pineapple Express (2008). Rogen and Goldberg opened their production company Point Grey (named after their High School) in 2010 and have produced This is the End (which marked their directorial debut), the critically acclaimed 50/50 (2011) and this year’s box office hit Neighbors, all of which Rogen also starred in. They won two American Comedy Awards earlier this year, for Best Comedy and Best Directors, for This is the End.

Tickets to An Evening with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are $20 for SFFS members, $25 general, $23 seniors, students and persons with disabilities. Ticket proceeds will benefit SFFS. Box office now open online at sffs.org.

Year-round programs at SFFS are supported in part by funding from RBC Capital Markets.
