San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco Film Society announced today the call for letters of inquiry for the second annual Djerassi Residency Award/San Francisco Film Society Screenwriting Fellowship, given to encourage the career of an emerging or established screenwriter. This exciting partnership with the Djerassi Resident Artists Program was initiated last year and is part of the Film Society’s expanded suite of Filmmaker Services programs and activities designed to foster creativity and further the careers of independent filmmakers.
The Djerassi Residency Award/San Francisco Film Society Screenwriting Fellowship provides uninterrupted time for work, reflection and collegial interaction, making this award unique in its capacity to provide an emerging or established screenwriter with an inspiring and supportive environment in a stunningly beautiful rural location. Set 40 miles south of San Francisco in the Santa Cruz Mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this residency offers living and work-studio accommodations and all meals from August 9 through September 8, 2011, at no cost to the recipient. The residency is open to both U.S and international screenwriters. This award is supported by a gift from Dale Djerassi.? ?The letter of inquiry period for the Djerassi Residency Award/SFFS Screenwriting Fellowship closes July 16.
Last October filmmaker Kathryn Mockler of Toronto, Canada was selected from more than 65 applicants to receive the 2010 Djerassi/Film Society residency for her project Weak People Are Fun to Torment. Mahdi Fleifel, a Palestinian filmmaker based in London, was awarded an honorable mention for his screenplay Palestine 3-Zero.?

SFFS screenwriting initiatives include the Hearst Screenwriting Grant, with more programs in the early planning stages including script readings with local actors and theater companies, script editing consultations and networking events to connect writers with producers.
