SFFILM
The Swell Season (USA/Czech Republic/Ireland 2011), a documentary that closely follows the further fortunes of the Oscar-winning couple from the indie hit Once, opens November 25 at the San Francisco Film Society’s new theatrical home, San Francisco Film Society | New People Cinema (1746 Post Street).
After starring in the indie hit Once and winning an Oscar for Best Original Song, folk rock musicians Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova won over audiences and skyrocketed to fame. In love and riding a wave of popularity, they decided to go on tour. This subtle and mesmerizing black-and-white documentary bears witness to the band and the couple, from rousing musical numbers to quieter moments of intense soul-searching. Seamlessly blending these two elements, the film weaves an intelligent and poignant story of two people attempting to balance their private and public lives. Directed by Nick August-Perna, Carlo Mirabella-Davis, Chris Dapkins. Photography by Chris Dapkins, edited by Nick August-Perna. 91 min. Distributed by Seventh Art Releasing.
