From the San Francisco International Film Festival and Doc Stories to the SFFILM Presents series and Family programming, our hand-selected films together with thoughtful, entertaining on-stage moderation are the cornerstone of a vibrant film culture in the Bay Area.
SFFILM Presents is an annual slate of curated film programs held monthly each fall. Created to give Bay Area audiences early, exclusive access, SFFILM Presents is the place for singular films and thoughtful, entertaining on-stage conversations with world-class talent moderated by SFFILM’s Programming experts. The SFFILM Presents series also features Award and Tribute programs including SF Honors and the Sloan Science in Cinema Prize. As the hub of the San Francisco film community, SFFILM’s fall programming contributes to our year-round cultivation of a vibrant Bay Area film culture.
Honoring exemplary achievement in film craft and serves as a fundraiser to support SFFILM’s enduring mission to discover, nurture, and showcase the next generation of film artists.
SFFILM’s partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation—the nation’s leading philanthropic grantor for science and the arts—culminates in the SFFILM Sloan Science in Cinema Initiative.
SF Honors is an annual award and showcase that brings extraordinary cinema to San Francisco audiences by celebrating the fearless and bold talent behind one of the year’s most compelling films.
SFFILM’s Family Programming utilizes the SFFILM Education team’s expertise in developing media literacy and critical thinking skills, illuminating diverse world cultures, and inspiring a lifelong appreciation of cinema.
Presented at the Festival since its inaugural year in 1957, the Golden Gate Awards (GGAs) are among the most significant honors for emerging global film artists in the United States.
For over 30 years, SFFILM and the Mel Novikoff Family Foundation have presented the Novikoff Award at the annual San Francisco International Film Festival.
Established in 1997, the Persistence of Vision Award honors the achievement of a filmmaker whose main body of work falls outside the realm of narrative feature filmmaking each year.
