Trivisa
Description
It’s 1997, the eve of the handover of Hong Kong from the British to the Chinese. Three legendary criminals are about to cross paths without realizing it: Notorious robber Yip Kwok-Fung (Richie Jen) is desperate to lay low after being caught on camera exchanging gunfire with the police. Kwai Ching-hung (Gordon Lam Ka-tung), the infamous “King of Thieves,” is planning one last heist at the risk of sacrificing his remaining friendships. And kidnapper Cheuk Tsz-keung (Jordan Chan, burning the screen down) is growing bored with his schemes and wants something bigger. The trio could team up for what may be the biggest caper of their careers—if any of them survive long enough to actually pull it off. With a sharp eye for detail and a terrific attention to time and place, directors Frank Hui, Jevons Au and Vicky Wong create a Hong Kong crime thriller reminiscent of the best of the genre’s heyday. With razor-sharp performances and a wicked sense of fun, Trivisa reveals there is still vicious talent at play in this autonomous territory. —Evrim Emsoy
