Description
This timely exploration of our increasingly mechanized world is a kaleidoscopic look at the automatically operating machines that are changing our daily lives in ways that run the gamut from intriguing to deadly. The film probes automation-influenced events both dramatic and incidental, from the death of a worker in a German Volkswagen factory to robotic displacement of laborers to the undermining of authentic human connection. Philosophers, journalists, and futurists add perspective and insight, sharing screen time with a non-human narrator.
“Social and political topics have shone through most of the work of Russian-born, New York-based documentarian [Maxim] Pozdorovkin. Our New President, which hilariously recounted the rise of Donald Trump as told by the Russian propaganda machine, won a special jury award at Sundance this year, and his 2013 Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer was widely appreciated. Killer Robots doesn’t have a specifically Russian theme, or the humor inherent in his films about Trump and Pussy Riot, but it addresses a topic of worldwide concern with the same lively curiosity.” —Deborah Young, The Hollywood Reporter
Maxim Pozdorovkin is a Russian documentary filmmaker. He obtained his PhD at Harvard. His documentary features include Capital, Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer, and The Notorious Mr. Bout. Our New President, a satirical collage portrait of Russian media portrayals of Donald Trump was one of the opening night selections at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The Truth About Killer Robots is his latest film.
