Description

As film festivals are canceled and theaters are closed, many filmmakers are questioning what options they have for distribution. Join SFFILM Makers for an online talk with Liz Manashil, film director and former manager of the Sundance Creative Distribution Initiative. Liz will offer some perspective on how filmmakers can navigate distribution in these difficult times. She will discuss self-distribution, impact distribution, and offer tangible tips for how to get started.

This event is designed for filmmakers, and is open to current FilmHouse residents and grantees, and SFFILM members with the Filmmaker Add-On. Not yet a member? Join today!

Attendees who RSVP for this event will be sent a link via email one day in advance to register for the online session, which will be conducted with Zoom. We recommend that you download and install Zoom on your computer or mobile device in advance, and set yourself up with a free account. Attendees will have a chance to participate in the Q&A by sending in questions privately to our moderator. Speaker Liz Manashil

Liz Manashil earned her B.A. in Film and Media Studies at Washington University in St. Louis, and her M.F.A. from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. Post graduation, Liz spent several years as a film critic for the PBS/Hulu series Just Seen It (which she also helped produce and direct). Overlapping this, Liz worked with distribution guru Peter Broderick. In 2016, Liz became the sole manager of Sundance’s groundbreaking Creative Distribution Initiative until the program’s close in 2019. She now works as the Senior Manager, Impact Distribution at Picture Motion. As a filmmaker, her debut feature, Bread and Butter, was called “an absolute must-watch for women everywhere” by HelloGiggles. It was released by The Orchard and can be seen on VOD nearly everywhere. Liz has just released her second feature film, Speed of Life (starring Ann Dowd and Allison Tolman; will be on Showtime in May), and is in production on her third, Lady Parts. Liz lives in Los Angeles with her dog, Laura Palmer, her partner, Sean Wright, and her son, Colin.
