Doc Talks continues with SFFILM alums, Ben Proudfoot and Tasha Van Zandt. Proudtfoot and Van Zandt will discuss their newest features, The Eyes of Ghana and A Life Illuminated, and how they navigated today’s complicated funding landscape to successfully bring them to the screen.

They feature acclaimed directors and producers sharing insights into their process and strategy, and are designed for both filmmakers and film lovers. Filmmaker Tasha Van Zandt

Tasha Van Zandt is a director, cinematographer, and producer. She wrote and directed the short documentaries The Gun Chronicles: A Story of America (2019), One Thousand Stories: The Making of a Mural (2019), and The Chronicles of Miami (2023). Tasha co-wrote and directed the feature documentary After Antarctica, which World Premiered at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2021 and won the Bay Area Documentary Jury Prize. A Life Illuminated is her latest film.

Filmmaker Ben Proudfoot

Ben Proudfoot is the filmmaking visionary and creative force behind Breakwater Studios, an LA-based company that has produced an illustrious array of award winning films that highlight unsung heroes throughout American history and beyond. He is a two-time Academy Award winner with The Queen of Basketball (2021) and The Last Repairshop (2023). Through Breakwater, Ben proudly leads 23 full-time filmmaking staff to produce documentary shorts and nurture partnerships with the likes of The New York Times, Barack and Michelle Obama, Lewis Hamiliton, Naomi Osaka and many more.
