Description

A shattering exposé of systemic corruption, Collective depicts the woeful response to the victims of a Bucharest nightclub fire and the brave and resourceful journalists who uncover the story. That 27 people perish in a club with no fire exits is tragic enough, but when 37 die later under hospital care, it catches the attention of Cătălin Tolontan, a writer for a sports daily. With a team of colleagues, he uncovers a medical and political establishment whose very framework is mind-bogglingly ill-equipped.

“Every now and then a documentary doesn’t just open your eyes but tears you apart by exposing a moral rift with resonance far beyond the film’s home country. Collective, Alexander Nanau’s explosive observational documentary about unfathomable corruption at the heart of the Romanian medical industry, is such a work.” –Jay Weissberg, Variety
