Polar Science + Climate Change: Polar Bears

Description

About 26,000 polar bears are left in the wild. But a newly identified polar bear population discovered in Greenland is less dependent on vanishing sea ice, giving some hope to the future survival for other subpopulations.

Sociology + Artificial Intelligence: Monk Skin Tone Scale

When a Harvard sociologist and his wife wondered what their baby’s skin tone would be, they realized technology’s need to recognize a wider range. Hence, the Monk Skin Tone Scale was born and then adopted by Google in May 2022. The technology aims to reduce bias in artificial intelligence.
