The San Francisco Film Society’s Education department presents the fifth annual College Days program at the 57th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 24-May 8) as part of its year-round Colleges & Universities program. This specially curated three-day series (May 2-4) for Bay Area college students includes screenings of five Festival films (Art and Craft; Bad Hair; Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter; Obvious Child, and The Overnighters) and Q&As with filmmaker guests. Screenings and discussions will take place at Sundance Kabuki Cinemas at 1881 Post Street and New People Cinema at 1746 Post Street in San Francisco. The complete program is being offered for just $45 per student.
For the 2014 spring semester, San Francisco State University is offering a one-unit weekend course entitled “Bay Area Film Culture,” taught by professor Aaron Kerner, which is designed around the College Days program. Tickets for the program are available for additional select college students but may only be purchased through the SFFS Education office by contacting education@sffs.org or 415-561-5042. SFIFF College Days tickets cannot be purchased through the regular Festival box office. Faculty members may also participate, if they attend with their students.
The Colleges & Universities program is run by the Film Society’s Education department and is designed to support and encourage students as they prepare to transition from the academic arena to the professional world. Offering an array of creative, educational, social, and professional opportunities, it is a valuable bridge that connects and engages students with the Film Society and the Bay Area filmmaking community.
