The short documentary One Thousand Stories: The Making of a Mural is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the creation of JR’s iconic mural, The Chronicles of San Francisco, currently on display at SFMOMA. Selected to screen in the Golden Gate Awards competition at the 2020 SFFILM Festival, this personal and penetrating film from Bay Area photographer and filmmaker Tasha Van Zandt showcases the unique atmosphere of trust, collaboration, and community of everyone who participated in this emblematic project.

This event is co-presented with First Republic Bank, a major supporter of SFFILM.
Members who RSVP for this event will be sent a link via email one day in advance to register for the online session, which will be conducted with Zoom. We recommend that you download and install Zoom on your computer or mobile device in advance, and set yourself up with a free account. Attendees will have a chance to participate in the Q&A with a text chat function. Registration closes around one hour before the start of the event — be sure to register early!

Tasha Van Zandt is a director, cinematographer, and Emmy-nominated producer whose projects have been supported by SFFILM, the Sundance Institute, the Sloan Foundation, and Film Independent. She has traveled on assignment across all seven continents creating projects for outlets such as Time, The Guardian, Google, Adobe, and many more. She is a collaborator of the artist JR and together they are co-directing a feature-length documentary about a supermax prison. Van Zandt is also directing the feature-length documentary After Antarctica, which follows the life of one of National Geographic‘s most celebrated polar explorers. Throughout her work, Van Zandt is dedicated to capturing stories that foster empathy and using her lens as a tool to build cultural bridges that lead to greater global understanding.
