Online Screening and Q&A: “Pangu” with Director Shaofu Zhang

Director Shaofu Zhang is expected to participate in an online Q&A following the screening.

Description

Based on the ancient Chinese creation myth, Pangu is a modern tale about parenthood and the differences between generations. Pangu creates a rigid world of angular shapes, but there’s just one problem: his son sees the world as curves.

Join us following the online screening of this animated short film for a fun and educational Q&A with writer, producer, and director Shaofu Zhang to learn about the making of the film and how TAIKO Studios celebrates Chinese culture through their unique storytelling. Shaofu will also be doing some live drawing that participants can follow along with at home.

Recommended for ages 5 and up.

This special online event, hosted by SFFILM Education, has been put together with children, parents, and teachers in mind. It is also free and open to the public. Attendees who RSVP for this event will be sent a link via email one day in advance to register for the online session, which will be conducted with Zoom. We recommend that you download and install Zoom on your computer or mobile device in advance, and set yourself up with a free account. Attendees will have a chance to participate in the Q&A by sending in questions privately to our moderator.

Director Shaofu Zhang

TAIKO Studios founder and CEO Shaofu Zhang has been inspired by film and animation from an early age. Shaofu built a career as a veteran character animator at Walt Disney Animation and Sony Imageworks. In addition, his student short film Dragonboy won the gold medal at the 38th Student Academy Awards in 2011. He most recently co-wrote and produced the Oscar-nominated animated short One Small Step and directed Fú, a short for Airbnb.
