Artist Development
The San Francisco Film Society has announced an exciting array of programs scheduled for Fall 2013, kicking off in October with the residency of Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab and continuing with six in-depth festivals spotlighting regional cinemas from around the globe. Artist in Residence: Mohamed Diab
October 1-15
Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab’s two-week residency features a screening of his directorial debut Cairo 678 with a moderated Q&A (Oct 10 at New People Cinema), a free artist talk (Oct 14 at FilmHouse), numerous visits to Bay Area high school and college classrooms and networking events with the local film community.
Hong Kong Cinema

The third annual festival of recent works from one of the world’s most exciting filmmaking hubs offers a wild mix of genres, presents retrospective classics and features performances from the region’s biggest stars.
Sister Cities Cinema: Zurich / SF

The Film Society’s fifth annual celebration of new work by homegrown talent highlights the passion, innovation and diversity of Bay Area filmmaking and inducts a new group to our expanding pantheon of local cinematic luminaries at Essential SF.

December 2-16
A recent guest of the San Francisco International Film Festival, acclaimed Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Silva (Crystal Fairy) returns to the city for a two-week residency which includes a screening of one of his films, a free artist talk and a full slate of visits to Bay Area high school and college classrooms and networking events with the local film community.
