Bay Area College Students Given Exclusive Film Education at 54th San Francisco International Film Festival

Mar 29, 2011

Festival

The San Francisco Film Society’s burgeoning Colleges & Universities program presents the second annual SFIFF College Days at the 54th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 21-May 5). This specially curated three-day series for Bay Area college students includes screenings of five Festival films and Q&As with filmmaker guests with SFIFF programmer Sean Uyehera as guest lecturer. All screenings and lectures will take place at Sundance Kabuki Cinemas at 1881 Post Street in San Francisco. The complete program is being offered for just $40 per student. Faculty members may participate, if they attend with their students. Course credit is also available. Tickets for the program may be purchased only through the SFFS Education office by contacting Trinity West at 415-561-5043 or twest@sffs.org. SFIFF College Days tickets cannot be purchased through the regular Festival box office.

For the 2011 spring semester, two of the city’s major universities are currently offering classes in connection with the SFIFF College Days program. San Francisco State University is offering a one-unit weekend course entitled Focus on Emerging Cinemas, and University of San Francisco is offering a four-unit, semester-long special topics course entitled Inside SFIFF.

The Film Society’s Colleges & Universities program was created to support and encourage students as they prepare to transition from the academic arena to the professional world. Offering an array of creative, educational, social, financial and professional opportunities, it is a valuable bridge that connects and engages students with the Film Society and the Bay Area filmmaking community.
