The San Francisco Film Society has announced the array of programs comprising its 2014 Fall Season, culminating in a jam-packed November schedule of festivals spotlighting regional cinemas from around the globe, with the highly anticipated return of the Film Society’s annual explorations of new work from France, Hong Kong and Italy. The season kicks off in September with innovative film programs for teachers and students, and continues with the two-week residencies of emerging independent filmmakers Zeresenay Mehari and Mehret Mandefro. French Cinema Now
November 6-9

Returning for its seventh year, French Cinema Now consists of four glorious days dedicated to significant new works of francophone cinema from France, Belgium, Quebec and anywhere else you hear the sweet sounds of the French language.
Hong Kong Cinema

The fourth annual festival of recent works from one of the world’s most exciting filmmaking hubs offers a wild mix of genres, presents retrospective classics and features performances from the region’s biggest stars.
New Italian Cinema

Vogue Theatre
Exploring the rich cinematic tradition of Italy and discovering its newest generation of filmmakers, this 18th edition will feature new work from some of the country’s brightest stars and the annual City of Florence Award competition highlighting emerging voices.

SFFS Education: Teacher Screening – Hellion
September 16
Landmark’s Embarcadero Center Cinema
Director Kat Candler will present her new feature film Hellion (SFIFF 2014) at a screening exclusively for Bay Area educators as part of her participation in a new Educational Outreach Services program for SFFS / KRF-granted filmmakers. Candler will also be visiting several Bay Area high schools to meet with students and discuss her work in classrooms Sept 15-18.
Artists in Residence: Zeresenay Mehari & Mehret Mandefro
October 1-14
Ethiopian-American filmmaking team Zeresenay Mehari and Mehret Mandefro will have a two-week residency in San Francisco featuring a screening of their film Difret (SFIFF 2014) with a moderated Q&A (Oct 9 at Landmark’s Embarcadero Center Cinema), a free artist talk (Oct 13 at FilmHouse), numerous visits to Bay Area high school and college classrooms and networking events with the local film community.
SFFS Education: The Art & Science of Lucasfilm

Premier Theater, Letterman Digital Arts Center
Kicking off the seventh season of this collaborative educational series, this program will highlight the work of the Lucasfilm Animation division and their new animated series Star Wars Rebels, with a behind-the-scenes interactive multimedia presentation for Bay Area middle and high school students presented by executive producer Dave Filoni.
