The San Francisco Film Society’s Colleges & Universities program presents the third annual College Days program at the 55th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 19-May 3). This specially curated three-day series (April 27-29) for Bay Area college students includes screenings of five Festival films (Informant, The Loneliest Planet, Mosquita y Mari, 17 Girls, The Waiting Room) and Q&As with filmmaker guests. All screenings and discussions will take place at Sundance Kabuki Cinemas at 1881 Post Street in San Francisco. The complete program is being offered for just $40 per student. Faculty members may participate, if they attend with their students. Course credit is also available. Tickets for the program are available for select college students only and may only be purchased through the SFFS Education office by contacting Trinity West at twest@sffs.org or 415-561-5043. SFIFF College Days tickets cannot be purchased through the regular Festival box office.
For the 2012 spring semester, two of the city’s major universities are currently offering classes in connection with the College Days program. San Francisco State University is offering a one-unit weekend course entitled “Focus on Contemporary Filmmakers,” taught by professor Aaron Kerner, and University of San Francisco is offering a four-unit, semester-long course entitled “Inside SFIFF,” taught by SFFS Director of Education Joanne Parsont.
The Colleges & Universities program is run by the Film Society’s Education department and was created to support and encourage students as they prepare to transition from the academic arena to the professional world. Offering an array of creative, educational, social, financial and professional opportunities, it is a valuable bridge that connects and engages students with the Film Society and the Bay Area filmmaking community.
