How easy is it to navigate the surrounding area for a wheelchair?
The front of the building on 1000 Van Ness have two doors, with a ramp on the left side door (closest to Myrtle Ave.) These doors are heavy and some folks experience difficulty opening the doors. A security guard or staff member should be stationed to assist you!

If you are driving and parking in the LAZ Parking lot in the building, the elevator to the lobby will take you directly to the theater entrance. A second elevator to the theater requires a staff member to key you up to the theater (due to building security.) Please look for any staff or volunteer when you arrive to assist you; someone should be standing by!

 

Are there steep hills?

No.

 

Are there any special ways to get accessible seating in the theater?
Please check in with a venue manager when you arrive.

How easy is it to navigate the surrounding area for a wheelchair?
Some crosswalks and intersections near-by have navigable curb cuts.

 

Are there steep hills?
Not directly by the theatre.

Are there any special ways to get accessible seating in the theater?
Theatre door staff will ask patrons with mobility devices if any assistance is needed. The theatre wheelchair access area is located at the back of the auditorium and easy to find.

 

Are there accessible bathroom stalls?
Yes.

 

Is there unscented soap in restrooms?
Yes.

 

Do you offer any hearing assistance devices?
The Castro Theatre has assisted hearing devices (6) a radio-like receiver with headphones. You can obtain a hearing device by leaving a state issued drivers license with the theatre operations manager.

While this theater does not have this technology permanently installed, SFFILM will have 6 devices available during our program.

There is a ramp to the entry doors. Please check in with a venue manager who can help direct you to wheelchair seating.

Yes. All immediately accessible restrooms are gender neutral. Gendered restrooms are accessible in a separate part of the building, and a motorized lift is available to access this space.

The easiest way to find directions to this theater is by having your GPS navigate to the Yoda Fountain. There are accessible pathways from all directions, and guests who choose to park in the parking structure will take the elevator directly to the theater lobby.

If you are arriving via rideshare, please navigate to the intersection of 10th and Fallon and enter the event via the ramp on 10th. 

If you are parking at OMCA, the parking lot entrance will take you directly to the check in on that side of the building. 

All areas of OMCA are wheelchair accessible.
