Filmmaker Reaa Puri travels to her homeland of Kashmir to reconnect with her 90-year-old great-grandmother, when a series of events in the region spark a quest for answers about this contested land and her place in it.

Director / Producer / DP Reaa Puri

Reaa Puri is a filmmaker, TEDx speaker, and co-founder of Breaktide Productions. Her films explore trauma and belonging. Reaa’s shorts have screened at Sundance, South by Southwest and London Asia Film Festival. She is a recipient of two Cannes Lion awards and the Roselyn Schneider Eisner Prize. Previously, Reaa was the DoP and Editor for Nike’s 2019 Black History Month series, show-runner of a VH1 TV show, and assistant director on feature film Mary Kom, streaming on Netflix. Reaa grew up between California, India, and Kuwait.

Co-Producer Maya Wise

Maya Wise is a producer and digital engagement specialist at KQED. She has led numerous advocacy campaigns and consulted with companies like AbbVie and Philips. She associate produced and assistant directed the feature film Idalia and the Niño Santo, which won first place at MIC Género – Mexico City’s International Film Festival of Gender. Maya is passionate about storytelling that sheds light on the universalities of the human experience and reminds us of the importance of human (and nature) connection.
