SF Chronicle Datebook: Crime in the Union Square area has prominently featured in the news lately, but the most notorious incident in its history will turn 50 next year. On Sept. 22, 1975, a 45-year-old woman named Sara Jane Moore reached into her purse, took out a revolver and fired two shots at President Gerald R. Ford as he emerged from the St. Francis Hotel.
