San Francisco Film Society Education Program Announces Young Filmmakers Camp 2011, July 11–August 5

Mar 24, 2011

Education

The San Francisco Film Society announced today that registration is now open for Young Filmmakers Camp 2011. This intensive film program is an opportunity for teens ages 13–18 to learn from first-class film professionals in a fun, interactive environment.

“Last year’s inaugural Young Filmmakers Camp was a great new way for us to combine our efforts and bring our high quality Film Craft & Film Studies classes to our Youth Education constituents,” said Joanne Parsont, SFFS director of education. “We’ve built on that success and crafted an even bigger and better program this summer that will serve different age and skill levels and provide even more opportunities to learn about-and make-film.”

The month-long program is divided into two sessions, for ages 13–15 (July 11–22) and 16–18 (July 25–August 5). Each session offers two weeks of intensive film instruction, which can be taken individually or in combination. In the first week, students will participate in the Learning Lab, a series of hands-on courses in screenwriting, digital video, sound, editing, animation and more. In the second week, the Production Lab will give teens the opportunity to produce a collaborative film project, with a screening of their completed work at the end of the week for their families and friends.

Students may enroll in the Learning Lab, the Production Lab or both labs back-to-back within each camp session. Students who wish to register for the Production Lab must also register for the Learning Lab or have attended Young Filmmakers Camp 2010 or have previous filmmaking experience.

Session 1: Ages 13–15
Week 1: Learning Lab, July 11–15
Week 2: Production Lab, July 18–22

Session 2: Ages 16–18
Week 1: Learning Lab, July 25–29
Week 2: Production Lab, August 1–5

The Young Filmmakers Camp will be held at University High School South Campus on Sacramento Street (at Lyon) in San Francisco. Camp is in session Mondays-Fridays, 9:00 am-4:00 pm.
