When a Harvard sociologist and his wife wondered what their baby’s skin tone would be, they realized technology’s need to recognize a wider range. Hence, the Monk Skin Tone Scale was born and then adopted by Google in May 2022. The technology aims to reduce bias in artificial intelligence.
