Visual Storytelling Workshop with Alicia K. Harris
Description
Join Alicia K. Harris, award-winning filmmaker, director, and producer for a visual storytelling workshop for teens. Known for her poetic, expressive style and work celebrating the Black experience, Alicia will lead students through the various visual components that encompass a film, from cinematography to production and costume design. Students will learn how to convey emotion through imagery and storyboarding exercises as well as how a director goes from script to screen. The filmmaker will also screen her short film On a Sunday at Eleven and give a presentation on her career in the film and television industry. This workshop runs for two hours and is open to students ages 13–18; space is limited. This workshop is for students only; parents and guardians may drop off their students.
Alicia K. Harris is a filmmaker from Toronto, Canada. Her Oscar-qualified short film PICK, won Best Live Action Short at the 2020 Canadian Screen Awards and Best Short Film at the 2020 Miami Film Festival. Her latest film, On a Sunday at Eleven, premiered at TIFF 2024, and the 2025 Berlinale. Notably, she was the main director and co-executive producer of the recent Amazon Prime Black cowboy series, Beyond Black Beauty, and the director of the official Gloria Gaynor biopic I Will Survive. Alicia is known for her poetic visual style and is dedicated to celebrating the Black experience in her work, with a focus on authenticity, beauty, and spirituality.
