Description

From the outside, lifelong Kosovar friends Li, Qe, and Jeta appear to have idyllic lives as they cruise the streets or loll on the hill above their hometown. Their reality is abusive households and dead-end futures if they can’t secure university educations so far denied them. Desperate to change their fortunes, the women hatch a wild plan that sets them at odds with the entire town but holds the promise of an ecstatic moment of freedom and maybe much more. Actor Luàna Bajrami (Happening, Festival 2022) makes a spectacular writing/directing debut with this tough yet luminous coming-of-age tale. Only 18 when she shot the film, Bajrami indelibly captures the tumult of youths rebelling against a world they reject.

Director Luàna Bajrami

French-Kosovar Luàna Bajrami got her start in the film industry as an actor, starting when she was 10, counting Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) among her credits. She makes her feature writing/directing debut with The Hill Where Lionesses Roar (2021), shot when she was 18.
