After the film program, Art Directors Kitty Clay and Andy Brown along with Director of Photography Charles Copping will be joining us remotely for a Q&A. All three have worked in countless Aardman productions, in both feature film and television. Including the Shaun the Sheep television series.

Description

Over the years, SFFILM Education has had the honor of celebrating the work of beloved animation studio Aardman Animations, and we are always thrilled to present their newest work. Founded in 1976, Aardman are best know for such iconic titles as Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit, and Early Man. Their numerous awards and accolades include four Oscars and 18 BAFTAs. Shaun the Sheep was first introduced to audiences in the 1995 short film A Close Shave. Since then, he has become one of their breakout stars with feature films (all screened with SFFILM) of his own along with the long running television series.

GKIDS will be releasing the film in theaters on September 18.

This special event, hosted by SFFILM Education under its Family Programming initiative in collaboration with SFMOMA, is free and open to the public. Advance RSVP is required. Recommended for ages 5 and up. The film is rated PG by the MPAA for mild scary action. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The film program is 91 minutes. Plus a Q&A of around 25 minutes.

Biographies

Art Director Andy Brown

From 2003 Andy has worked solely for Aardman, firstly as a set dresser, then senior set dresser, assistant art director and art director. He has worked on multiple television series, interstitials, short films and movies. Andy moved up to Art Director in 2016 on series 5 of Shaun the Sheep. He then went on to art direct Shaun the Sheep series 6, The Flight Before Christmas, and Shaun the Sheep series 7. Away from Shaun the Sheep, Andy art directed I Am Your Mother for Star Wars: Visions Volume 2, directed by Magdalena Osinska. Shortly after this he took a role as assistant art director on Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. Andy has just finished art directing on the latest Shaun the Sheep movie: The Beast of Mossy Bottom.

Art Director Kitty Clay

In 1998, Kitty joined Aardman to work as a Set Dresser on its first feature film, Chicken Run. She went on to Art Direct two series of Creature Comforts before returning as Set Dresser on Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. In 2007, Kitty became the Production Designer for the first series of Shaun the Sheep. Her original designs formed the visual foundation for the franchise and continued to be used across seven television series, two half-hour specials, and three feature films. Kitty has since worked on a number of acclaimed productions, including Early Man, Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon, Robin Robin, and Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. She was Assistant Art Director on Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, followed by work on a pilot for a new Pokémon series in the same role. In 2025, Kitty became Art Director on Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, the latest Shaun the Sheep production.

Director of Photography Charles Copping

Charles Copping has spent over three decades specializing in world-class stop-motion animation. Best known for his extensive work with Aardman, Copping has risen from a studio runner to a leading Director of Photography behind major global feature films. Charles has worked on multiple major feature films, serving as Senior Lighting Cameraman on The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!, Early Man, and Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. Charles has built on all this depth of experience to become Director of Photography on four global feature releases: Shaun the Sheep Movie, Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget and most recently Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom.
