No Date, No Signature
Description
A car accident at night causes an escalating amount of damage in the second feature from Jalilvand, an impressive Iranian theater director. When Kaveh, a forensic doctor, collides with a family of four on a scooter, he urges them to a nearby clinic to make sure their young son isn’t concussed. As both parties make questionable decisions related to the boy’s health, Kaveh and the boy’s father confront issues of moral responsibility in this deeply religious, but also deeply secretive, society.
“A handsomely made, exceptionally well-played drama … the film explores questions of culpability and responsibility in a society constantly playing on the edge of the rule of law. A no-holds-barred performance by Navid Mohammadzadeh (‘Nahid’), recognized by the Fajr jury with their supporting actor prize, gives No Date its emotional core.” – Jay Weissberg, Variety
After getting his start as an actor, Vahid Jalilvand made 30 documentaries for Iranian state TV before making his feature debut with Wednesday, May 9 (2015). No Date, No Signature, his second feature, won the FIPRESCI prize at the Bratislava International Film Festival, while Jalilvand was awarded the Gold Hugo in the New Directors Competition at the Chicago International Film Festival.
