From Grammy-winning duo Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Music + Film returns to the Festival with guitarist Gabriela Quintero and her first solo project. Featuring the World Premier of Beth Aala’s intimate new documentary, which follows Gaby as she creates her debut independent album. In her hometown of Zihuatanejo, Mexico, the film captures the intersection of Gaby’s music with her passions—advocating for animal welfare, supporting local female artists, and exploring a softer, more personal musical expression.

After the screening, audiences will enjoy a live performance by Gabriela Quintero, joined by Grammy-winning producer and collaborator Daniel Ho. The program wraps with a conversation featuring the filmmaker and musicians, offering insight into the creative process and the stories behind the music. Biographies

Director Beth Aala

Beth Aala was born and raised in Indiana but grew up across the Bay in Sacramento, CA. She made her directorial debut with a 2003 episode of the MTV series Made, followed by her first feature, Pool Party (2010). Among her other films are Made in Boise (2019), Uncharted (2023) with Alicia Keys and her organization She is the Music, and This is Brighton (2023). As a producer, she won a Peabody Award for HBO’s Music in Me (2006) and three Primetime Emmys for HBO’s I Have Tourette’s, Classical Baby (I’m Grown Up Now): The Poetry Show (2008) and A Child’s Garden of Poetry (2011). She earned a News & Documentary Emmy nomination for both Made in Boise (2012) and Supermensch which she directed with Mike Myers (2014).
