Description

A mural artist navigates personal and creative uncertainty after a painful breakup in Sarra Tsorakidis’s enchanting feature debut. Seeking solace, Lena (Ilinca Hărnuț) takes a commission to adorn the walls of a remote luxury brutalist hotel deep in a Romanian forest. Initially unsettled by isolation and self-doubt, Lena gradually embraces her solitude, confronting her emotions and rediscovering her artistic voice. Surrounded by the quiet vastness of the trees and the harsh architecture of the hotel, Lena’s art becomes a beautiful reflection of the Romanian countryside. Through beautifully restrained cinematography, Ink Wash becomes a contemplative journey of self-discovery, transformation, and renewal. Tsorakidis crafts a subtle yet profound exploration of personal growth, reminding us that even in darkness, new possibilities and connections await. Anchored by Hărnuț’s understated performance, the film is a striking reflection on the unexpected gift of reinvention. —Amir George
