Tune-Yards is the musical project of Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner, who have been touring and writing music together since 2009. The duo’s sixth studio record, Better Dreaming, was released on the respected label 4AD in May 2025, and finds the band continuing to push the boundaries of what popular music can be.
Ever since Garbus began performing solo shows with a looping pedal and ukulele around 2006, tUnE-YaRdS (as it was then written) has become synonymous with bold creativity and experimentation. That philosophy led the duo to collaborations with groundbreaking artists such as Yoko Ono, Laurie Anderson, and David Byrne, and into their recent creative relationship with Boots Riley, for whom they’ve scored two feature films and one TV series: 2018’s Sorry to Bother You, I Love Boosters (to be released by NEON on May 22nd, 2026) and the acclaimed television series, I’m A Virgo.
The duo continues to tour, known for explosive performances and transformational musical experiences which connect audiences to larger political and social themes. They live in Oakland, California.
