I Hate Kids
Description
Director John Asher, along with co-writers Frank Dietz and Todd Traina, deliver a heartfelt, sweet-natured contemporary comedy that highlights a terrific cast of notable character actors having a great time with eye-popping one-liners and laugh-out-loud physical humor. This is one for all the goofy romantics out there. Nick Pearson (the ever-charming Tom Everett Scott) is a successful author, notable in part for his writings about how kids ruin relationships. He is about to settle down with his perfect mate (Rachel Boston), despite misgivings from her sister (a hilarious turn from Better Call Saul‘s Rhea Seehorn). However, on the night of their rehearsal dinner, 13-year old Mason (newcomer Julian Feder), shows up claiming to be his son. After much interrogation, it turns out that Mason has learned about his father from well-known radio psychic The Amazing Fabular (played to the hilt by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Tituss Burgess). The trio set out on a journey to find Mason’s mom (and in an effort to convince Nick he is, in fact, a father) and what they learn about his past brings everyone together in unexpected ways.
John Asher made his directing debut at 21 with Kounterfeit (1996), and went on to direct Kirk Douglas and Lauren Bacall in Diamonds (1999). Among his other features are Somebody Marry Me (2013) and A Boy Called Po (2016). He is second-generation Hollywood, the son of I Love Lucy director and Bewitched creator William Asher. I Hate Kids’ Betty Bartlett is his mother, actress Joyce Bulifant.
