Hedda
Guests Expected
We are thrilled to welcome writer and Director Nia DaCosta back to SFFILM with her latest film, Hedda. DaCosta is an SFFILM Rainin Grantee alumna for her first/early feature film Little Woods (2018) also starring Tessa Thompson.
Description
From writer/director Nia DaCosta comes a provocative, modern reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play. Hedda (Tessa Thompson) finds herself torn between the lingering ache of a past love and the quiet suffocation of her present life. Over the course of one charged night, long-repressed desires and hidden tensions erupt—pulling her and everyone around her into a spiral of manipulation, passion, and betrayal.

Nia DaCosta is one of the freshest and most in-demand voices in Hollywood having written and directed projects for stage, film and television.
Currently, DaCosta is in post-production on 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, starring Cillian Murphy, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes, among many others.
Most recently, Nia directed and co-wrote the highly anticipated Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, starring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani. Past directorial projects include the Universal Studios feature film Candyman, her debut feature, Little Woods, and television credits on Netflix’s Top Boy and HBO’s Industry.
Nia received a BFA in Film and Television from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and a MA in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. She currently resides in London.
