Description

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In Frozen, Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In Frozen II, she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho, and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen II opens in US theaters on November 22.

This special event, hosted by SFFILM Education under its Family Programming initiative, is free and open to the public. Advance RSVP is required.

The program will start off with a special behind-the-scenes presentation by Disney Effects Supervisor Erin V. Ramos. This special opportunity will give our young audience members the chance to learn a little bit more about what it takes to make an animated feature film and perhaps inspire their own artistic pursuits. The film will play immediately after the presentation.

Effects Supervisor Erin V. Ramos

Erin V. Ramos, an Annie Award-winning effects artist for her work on the 2016 feature, Moana, brings her talent and expertise in effects animation to her current role on Frozen II. Born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Folsom, California, Ramos pursued her dreams of applying her computer science skills and training to the world of entertainment, after being inspired by such films as Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Jurassic Park. After graduating from UCLA’s School of Engineering and Applied Science in 2002, she got her professional start at Los Angeles-based effects house Rhythm & Hues Studios, working as a pipeline technical director on such films as The Cat in the Hat and Garfield. She worked for that company over a 10-year period, with stints in between in Tokyo working for Digital Frontier, and in Wellington, New Zealand, working for WETA on The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Ramos joined Disney in 2014 to be an effects lead on Moana, where she was responsible for developing FX rigs for the shoreline water and breaking waves. She received an Annie Award from ASIFA in 2017 for her accomplishments. Her other Disney credits include Ralph Breaks the Internet and Frozen II. She describes her work in effects animation as “the perfect confluence of science and art.”
