Persistence of Vision Award

Join Cryptozoo writer/director and Persistence of Vision Award Winner Dash Shaw in conversation with Oscar nominee and Bay Area resident Trevor Jimenez (Weekends, 2018). The POV award honors a filmmaker whose main body of work falls outside the realm of traditional narrative filmmaking.

Cryptozoo

Funny, sexy, and ambitious, Shaw’s hand-drawn feature captivates a far-out story of mythological creatures and the brave souls trying to protect them from harm.

Description

Captivatingly far-out in its thrilling storylines and psychedelic visuals, the film opens with a tender scene of forest lovemaking and closes with a spectacular helicopter chase featuring a sword-wielding badass named Lauren, intent on freeing any creature deemed different. Weighty matters of biodiversity and acceptance of the strange and wonderful underpin Shaw’s funny, sexy, and ambitious hand-drawn tale of mythological creatures and the brave souls trying to protect them.

Director Dash Shaw

SFFILM’s 2021 POV award winner Dash Shaw is a comic book writer and artist, animator, screenwriter, and director. His previous films include a short, Seraph (2012), and his debut feature, My Entire High School Sinking Into the Sea (2016). Cryptozoo won the Sundance Film Festival NEXT Innovator Award.
