Join us for an in-depth career conversation with Academy-Award winning documentarian Alex Gibney, director of the Festival’s opening night film, Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine and the recent HBO presentation Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.

Gibney’s 2008 film, Taxi to the Dark Side, received an Oscar for Best Feature-Length Documentary and a Best Director nomination from the Director’s Guild of America. He received another Academy Award nomination in 2006 for Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room. Other films include Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks, Client 9: The Rise & Fall of Eliot Spitzer and Park Avenue: Money, Power, and the American Dream. Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God was shortlisted for a 2013 Academy Award and won three Primetime 2013 Emmy Awards. He is also the director of The Armstrong Lie and The Last Gladiators (SFIFF 2012).

The Cinema Visionaries series at California College of the Arts, which hosts a renowned filmmaker for an evening of clips and conversation, has become an important event in the Bay Area community. The San Francisco Film Society is pleased to be joining with CCA in an ongoing collaboration to bring Cinema Visionaries to the city’s film lovers along with CCA’s students.
