Description

From the age of 12, Flynn McGarry has pursued his dream to be a chef, from preparing exclusive at-home dinners to apprenticing with top chefs in Manhattan. Now 19, he is trying to open his first NYC pop-up, with the help of his mother/manager Meg. As much a story about a culinary prodigy as a mother-son relationship portrait, the film weaves extensive home videos with savory footage, demonstrating the passion of a young man who’s always known what he was meant to do.

“In its best moments, Chef Flynn is like a real-life Ratatouille, showing an unlikely chef excelling at his profession due to his passion and creativity. But the heart of the movie is a parent who wants the best for her child even if she’s not exactly sure how to help him reach the top of the culinary world.” – Matt Goldberg, Collider

“The dramatic heart of the film chronicles the debut of his NYC pop-up, where he clearly hasn’t had enough time to settle in. We see stress we haven’t seen before as he tries to train a staff of strangers, his fennel disappearing as the clock ticks toward the first seating. Things go wrong, for what seems to be the first time in his cooking career, and Meg’s pushy flavor of support makes one wince. ‘Get my mother out of the dining room,’ he begs when she goes out to explain to diners why they shouldn’t complain about a long wait in between courses. Amen, kid.” – John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter
