Description

When a tentacled alien destroys the moon and tells the authorities that Earth is next, world leaders are stumped, unsure how to respond. Amidst the chaos, the creature itself offers an unexpected solution: Allow him to become the homeroom teacher for 3rd Grade E Class at Kunugigaoka Junior High School and he’ll tutor his students on how to kill him before he can lay waste to the planet! So begins the weirdest and most wonderful school year in history with the drop-outs of 3rd Grade E Class finally getting a chance to test the limits of their own abilities. Taking the moniker Koro Sensei for his daily lessons, our not so humble villain/hero channels a sociopathic alternate-reality Edward James Olmos in a severely mutated Stand and Deliver. Just like the inner-city American school kids in that film, these outcast Japanese youngsters reach within themselves to grow beyond their boundaries and become adults. But unlike those pupils, these teens must also dodge fully automatic artillery, grenades and enough tentacle slaps to make Captain Nemo quiver. Assassination Classroom is an assured, visually inventive, utterly bonkers cinematic treat that will leave even the most cynical cinemagoers with giant smiles the size of Koro Sensei’s plastered on their faces. —Evrim Emsoy
