Tigre
Description
In a boarded-up family estate situated in Argentina’s mysterious and ancient Tigre delta, three generations gather to decide whether to sell their property to developers. As the family navigates their relationship to their home and local kids engage in forbidden games, various interpersonal conflicts that arise lead to a powerful crescendo.
“It helps that Schnicer’s screenplay is so elegant and concise, and that it’s brought to life by the uniformly excellent performances, Ivan Gierasinchuk’s textural, tactile photography, Nahuel Palenque’s layered, seething sound design, and the repetitive, Philip Glass-like motifs of Cruclax and Santiago Palenque’s fine modernist score.” – Jessica Kiang, Variety
“Tigre begs us to consider what it means to be preoccupied with the significance of material markers of legacy when the corporeal and relational facts of one’s lineage remain obscured.” – Lydia Ogwang, Cinemascope
In addition to writing and directing films, Silvina Schnicer has worked as an art director and production designer. Before making Tigre, she and her collaborator Ulises Porra Guardiola previously made a short, La Bicha. She is currently writing her next film, La Quinta.
Ulises Porra Guardiola makes his feature directing debut alongside Silvina Schnicer with Tigre. He is also the film’s editor. He has previously worked as a set designer and assistant director. He is a co-writer on Acusada, an upcoming feature starring Gael Garcia Bernal.
