Hand-Drawn Artistry with DreamWorks Animation: A Workshop for Kids
Description
Join DreamWorks Animation director William Salazar for a screening and behind-the-scenes presentation about his brand new animated short Bird Karma. The film is part of an exciting new initiative called DreamWorks Shorts, recently launched to develop talent, storytelling skills, innovate new technologies, and explore new characters and stories at DreamWorks. Though it is his directorial debut, Salazar is a veteran of the animation industry having worked for more than 20 years as an animator bringing characters to life in a number of beloved films including The Prince of Egypt (1998), Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002), Madagascar (2005), and Kung Fu Panda (2008).
Participants in the workshop will get a peek behind the curtain, viewing everything from concept art to rough animation tests, to learn how Salazar and his talented team of artists brought this lively and slightly mischievous film to life. They will also have a chance to explore and learn some very basic principals of traditional hand drawn animation that were used in the making of the film, as Salazar guides them through hands-on activities. We’ll finish things off with some sketching and learn to draw some of Salazar’s favorite DreamWorks characters he has worked on throughout his career.
This is a drop-off class for kids ages 10–14.
