Barry
Description
After his tour of duty in the Marines, Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) is having a hard time returning to his everyday Midwestern life and suffers from a vague dissatisfaction with his post-military job as a hitman. When he begrudgingly agrees to travel to Los Angeles for work, he finds himself in a Hollywood acting class with a charismatic teacher (Henry Winkler) and begins to picture a new life for himself as an actor, but it’s never easy to leave the past behind.
Although one might not immediately think hitman when envisioning Hader, he is both affable and strikingly dangerous as Barry. Combining a deadpan delivery with his on-screen comic stature, he brings a certain charm and charisma to the role, making him incredibly likable, which becomes all the more startling when he undertakes a job. The awkward and relatable humor comes from real-life, “There’s a scene with Sarah Goldberg on the show where the acting teacher actually makes her cry. We actually saw that in an acting class,” said Hader. Co-starring Stephen Root (Office Space, 1999) as his boss that contracts him out and scene-stealing newcomer Goldberg as his acting partner and love interest, creator, writer, director, and star Hader proves that he has the skills both in front of and behind the camera to make a killing.
Come share the first three episodes of this new dark comedy with members of the cast.
“Barry not only shifts from comedy to drama convincingly and at the drop of a hat, but it dispenses various shades of each so that all eight episodes hold together as a grounded, honest story with a long road ahead. Bill Hader and Alec Berg’s series is highly entertaining and acutely heartbreaking, and that’s pretty damn special.” – Ben Travers, IndieWire
Bill Hader is an actor whose credits include nearly 10 seasons on Saturday Night Live (2005-2013), Superbad (2007), The Skeleton Twins (Festival 2014), and Trainwreck (2015). As a writer, his latest work is Barry. The series also marks his directing debut.
