The web platform and app have been created with the generous support of Margaret and Will Hearst.
FEATURE FILMS ADDED MAY 1
About Elly
Asghar Farhadi (Iran 2009, 119 min)
From the acclaimed director of A Separation (Oscar, Best Foreign Language Film) comes this mystery-thriller, set among a group of Iranian college friends visiting the Caspian Sea for a holiday weekend. As with Farhadi’s better-known films, About Elly concerns the affluent, well-educated, cultured, and only marginally religious members of Iran’s upper-middle-class.
The Beaches of Agnès
Agnès Varda (France 2008, 110 min)
Returning to the beaches which have been part of her life, Varda invents a kind of self‐portrait documentary. Agnès stages herself among excerpts of her films, images and reportages. She shares with humor and emotion her beginnings as a stage photographer, then as early filmmaker of the French New Wave, her life with Jacques Demy, her feminism, her trips to Cuba, China and the USA, her life as independent producer and her family life.
Leviathan
Lucien Castaing-Taylor, Véréna Paravel (France/England/USA 2012, 87 min)
Shot off the New Bedford coast, this is the largely wordless depiction of a fishing vessel and its environment. Using dozens of cameras, the film soaks the viewer in the sensory experience of being aboard the ship.
Museum Hours
Jem Cohen (Austria/USA 2012, 107 min)
When a Vienna museum guard befriends an enigmatic visitor, the grand Kunsthistorisches Art Museum becomes a mysterious crossroads which sparks explorations of their lives, the city, and the ways artworks reflect and shape the world.
The Princess of France
Matías Piñeiro (Argentina 2014, 67 min)
A year after his father’s death in Mexico, Victor returns to Buenos Aires with a twofold mission. On the one hand, he brings with him a new project for his former theater company; on the other, he abandons his part as the Princess of France and takes up a new role in front of five actresses who know him all too well, but who don’t know that time to work will soon become a time to think again about lost loves.
