As she navigates this transition, the documentary explores her encounters with renowned directors, mentors, and activists, as well as the deeply personal losses that have shaped her life. Balancing creative reinvention with vulnerability, Hillgrove’s journey becomes a detective story of self-discovery, aided by her longtime partner Karen Brocco, who helps uncover hidden parts of her past. Vivien Hillgrove makes her directing debut with Vivien’s Wild Ride after a decades-long career in the film industry. She was a sound editor on Tell Me a Riddle (1980) and One from the Heart (1981); dialogue editor on Never Cry Wolf (1983), The Right Stuff (1983), and Blue Velvet (1986); and editor on The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988), Henry & June (1990), and Geographies of Kinship (2019). She was also a writer on the documentaries First Person Plural (2000) and In the Matter of Cha Jung Hee (2010).
