Description

Marlee Matlin shot to fame at 21 when she won an Academy Award® for her triumphant performance in Children of a Lesser God. During the ensuing decades Matlin struggled for recognition and support as a deaf actor, despite working steadily in both television (The West Wing, Law & Order, The L Word) and film (Sweet Nothing in My Ear, CODA). Her tenacity and dedication to her craft belied the overwhelming challenges Matlin faced personally and professionally. In Shoshannah Stern’s riveting debut documentary Matlin lays bare her experiences as an icon, an actress, a mother, and an advocate. This inspirational documentary is a celebration of the remarkable power of community and a tender tribute to Matlin’s trailblazing career. —Jessie Fairbanks
