Description
It’s summer in southern California and 17-year-old Lea (Lily McInerny) is weary of her friends, her man-crazy mom (Gretchen Mol), and the banalities of life. When she meets charming, handsome Tom (Jonathan Tucker), twice her age, she responds to his attentive, flirtatious manner and never questions whether his intentions are less than noble or romantic. As Lea drifts further from her peers and parent and closer to the charismatic new man in her life, the realization that she may be swimming in treacherous waters begins to surface. First-time feature director Jamie Dack won the Sundance Film Festival US Dramatic directing prize for this brilliantly acted drama that depicts the thrills and dangers of adolescent sexuality with suspenseful aplomb.
Biographies
An MFA graduate of NYU’s Graduate Film Program, Jamie Dack started out as a writer and director by making short films, including Palm Trees and Power Lines (2018), which premiered in the Cinéfondation section of the Cannes Film Festival and from which her first feature was adapted. She was selected for Panavision’s New Filmmaker Program and was a 2020 Film Independent Fast Track Fellow.
