Description
Haley Lu Richardson and Owen Teague are magnificent as estranged siblings who return to their dying father’s ranch. Cal arrives first; when he goes to see his beloved horse Mr. T before visiting his dad, it’s clear there’s distance between them. Later, when Cal’s sister Erin shows up, simmering with rage after being out of contact with her father and brother for seven years, a deeper story of abuse and resentment surfaces. Though predominantly a portrait of familial dysfunction, directors McGehee and Siegel (Suture, Festival 1994; What Maisie Knew, Festival 2013) take the time to paint three-dimensional portraits of other people from the community who have been looking after the patriarch’s home, land, and well-being, crafting an incredibly moving drama about healing and moving forward.

A native of Southern California and a graduate of Columbia University, Scott McGehee began his longtime partnership with David Siegel in 1989 when they collaborated on a short documentary, Birds Past.
Brookyn, NY, native David Siegel attended UC Berkeley. With Scott McGehee, he has made six feature films, including Suture (Festival 1994), for which he and McGehee were nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature; The Deep End (Festival 2001); Bee Season (2005); Uncertainty (2008); and What Maisie Knew (Festival 2013).
