54th San Francisco International Film Festival Presents Midnight Award to Clifton Collins Jr.

Apr 15, 2011

Festival

The 54th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 21-May 5) is excited to announce that Clifton Collins Jr. will be honored at the fourth Midnight Awards, 10:30 pm, Saturday, April 23 at the W San Francisco. The Midnight Awards takes the form of a late night talk show, hosted by Beth Lisick, New York Times best-selling author and coorganizer of the Porchlight Storytelling Series, with live musical accompaniment by the Darren Johnston Trio. Lisick will interview Collins and his previously announced Midnight Award corecipient Zoe Saldana. Clips of their work will be shown prior to the presentation of the awards.

The Midnight Awards were created in 2007 to honor a dynamic young actor and actress who have made outstanding contributions to independent and Hollywood cinema and bring intelligence, talent and depth of character to their roles.

Clifton Collins Jr. is one of Hollywood’s most versatile talents and his career continues to evolve with exciting and challenging projects. He received glowing accolades for his portrayal of Perry Smith in the Academy Award nominated film Capote (2005), including an Alma Award nomination for best actor.

Collins has starred in both studio and independent features and his work spans the range from comedy to drama. He was part of the all-star cast, including fellow Midnight Award recipient Zoe Saldana, in Star Trek (2009), in which he plays the Romulan Ayel. He also acted alongside Amy Adams and Emily Blunt in the festival hit Sunshine Cleaning (2008).

Collins’s other notable film credits include Roger Avery’s Rules of Attraction (2002), Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic (2000), Joel Schumacher’s Tigerland (2000), Antoine Fuqua’s The Replacement Killers (1998), Kevin Reynolds’ 187 (1997), the Hughes Brothers’ Dead Presidents (1995) and Menace to Society (1993) and John Singleton’s Poetic Justice (1993).

Collins is currently starring in NBC’s new hit drama The Event.

He resides in Los Angeles.

Previous recipients of the Midnight Awards are Evan Rachel Wood and Elijah Wood (2009), Rose McGowan and Jason Lee (2008) and Rosario Dawson and Sam Rockwell (2007).

The Midnight Awards are one of the dedicated events that the Film Society presents throughout the year that are crafted by its Midnight Club membership group and cater to participants aged 25-40. These events are premium priced and open to the public.

The Midnight Awards will be held at the W San Francisco and are sponsored by 944 magazine. Tickets are $40 for Midnight Club members, $45 for San Francisco Film Society members and $50 for the general public. For tickets and information visit sffs.org/tickets.
