An Island In The Middle Of The Sea
The short film “An Island In The Middle Of The Sea” tells the heartwarming story of a beloved
professor who falls ill and is unable to continue teaching at a local university. Her students, who
have been deeply touched by her guidance and mentorship, come together to express their
gratitude and appreciation for all she has done for them.
The film opens with a montage of scenes depicting the Professor’s impact on her students. We
see her leading class discussions, providing individual guidance to struggling students, and even attending extracurricular events to support her students’ interests outside the classroom. It’s clear that the Professor is not only a gifted teacher but also a kind and compassionate person who deeply cares about her students’ well-being.
As such, her students are devastated by the news of her illness and struggle to come to terms
with the fact that they will no longer be able to learn from her. However, they soon come up
with an idea to show the Professor just how much she means to them.
The students meet after school in order to organize a surprise ‘vacation’ for their professor.
They plan on taking her to an island that she’s always wanted to visit, specifically because it is
the death place of her husband, and since then, it’s been a goal for her to visit for a long time.
I find myself connecting to this story because I have a very strong connection to all of my
teachers, though none of them are currently ill. They spend so much time and effort molding us
into our best selves, and they teach because they find joy in teaching, allowing the young to
learn more about themselves and the world around them. They sacrifice so much for us, and all they ask in return is a “Good morning” or to laugh at their jokes every once in a while.
The film’s message is clear to me: teachers have a profound impact on their students’ lives and
should be celebrated and appreciated for their hard work and dedication. While the professor
in question may be leaving the classroom, her legacy will live on through the countless lives she
has touched and inspired.
Overall, “An Island In The Middle Of The Sea” is a heartwarming tribute to the power of
education and the profound influence that teachers can have on their students. It reminds us
that we should always take the time to thank those who have helped us along the way and to
cherish the memories we have shared with them.
