Description

Oscar-nominated actor Kristen Stewart marks her first feature-length directorial foray with The Chronology of Water. Adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch’s acclaimed memoir, Stewart crafts an unflinching portrait of womanhood, survival, and artistry. Starring an impressive Imogen Poots as Lidia, the film follows a gifted swimmer raised in an abusive household who finds refuge in water until her future is irrevocably altered. What follows next is a raw and hypnotic exploration of love, loss, addiction, and sexuality, as Lidia rebuilds herself from the inside out. Stewart’s visual style matches the rhythm of remembrance and self-discovery, eschewing traditional storytelling as she pulls the viewer directly into Lidia’s inner world. This is a bold and electrifying debut, one that navigates the intersection of memory and memoir, while announcing a new voice in the director’s chair.

Director Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart is an Academy Award–nominated actress for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the Pablo Larraín-directed Spencer (2021). Stewart won 22 critic awards for her performance, as well as a Best Actress nomination from the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.

Stewart rose to international fame when she starred as Bella Swan in the hit franchise The Twilight Saga (2008-2012). In 2015, she became the first American actress to be awarded a César Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Olivier Assayas’s Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), in which she starred alongside Juliette Binoche. In January 2017, Stewart made her directorial debut with the short film Come Swim, which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Stewart most recently directed a short film for the band boygenius, which tied together three music videos from their recent album. Stewart was introduced to audiences worldwide in 2002 with her gripping performance alongside Jodie Foster in Panic Room. She has also starred in Snow White and the Huntsman (2012), in Walter Salles’s screen adaptation of On the Road (2012) by Jack Kerouac and in the sci-fi love story film Love Me (2024).

Actor Imogen Poots

Since her breakout role in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s acclaimed 28 Weeks Later (2007), Imogen Poots has become one of today’s most versatile and compelling actors, moving fluidly between bold auteur-driven projects and celebrated mainstream work. This fall Imogen stars in The Chronology of Water (2025), Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch’s powerful memoir. She also appears in Hedda (2025), Nia DaCosta’s contemporary take on Henrik Ibsen’s classic play, alongside Tessa Thompson and Nina Hoss. Imogen also starred opposite Brett Goldstein in All of You (2024).
